Turfway Park selections for Thursday

Turfway Park’s Mike Battaglia provides daily selections and comments for the Tribune during the live racing meets.

Battaglia Selections for Thursday, March 22

RACE 1
CANDRASA showed big improvement in her first start for Kim Hammond. A repeat of that performance would be good enough to win tonight. BIRD STREET stretches out to a mile and a sixteenth and has the speed to make the lead with Ouzts aboard. She is the one to catch. SHAMELESSFI is a solid threat.

RACE 2
ROB AND JON’S GIRL is an eight-year-old veteran who loves this track. She woke up last out and looked good winning at this level. She can make it two in a row with Figueroa back aboard for David Kinder. NATIVE INDY also comes off of a winning effort. She has the tactical speed to be in contention throughout and has to be respected. VIA FRATTINA stopped badly last out but is capable of better.

RACE 3
SUCKER PUNCHED was knocked around leaving the gate last out and then stopped after pressing the pace. He figures to make the lead tonight and gets the nod with Lebron picking up the mount. BODLER is a seven-year-old runner who has shown improvement since moving to the Turfway Poly. He looked good winning last out and is definitely the one to beat. THAMAAN fits in here.

RACE 4
TIZ BEAUTY is a consistent performer against bottom claimers and rates the edge over BELOVED BETTY and APPEALING JULIA, who both take huge class drops coming back after a layoff.

RACE 5
EMMY SHIMMY is a lightly raced four-year-old who gets blinkers for the first time tonight. She looks best against a fairly weak field of bottom maidens. CHANNEL NINE  showed big improvement last out and a repeat of that one makes her the one to beat. ZEMO is a contender.

RACE 6
MISS CATWOOD is riding a two-race win streak and has won six of her 12 races here at Turfway. She moves up a notch in class but looks best with Prentice picking up the mount for Jeff Greenhill. VACANZIE INN ran on the same day as the top pick and also won. She is the one to beat but it’s a bit baffling that she ran a fifth of a second slower and yet her Beyer was five points higher. RADIANTRITHYM cuts back to six furlongs and will be running at the end.

RACE 7
DISORDERLY CONDUCT had been extremely consistent before his last race, when he was the odds-on favorite and beaten 27 lengths. Maker has worked him four times since that debacle and anything close to his best makes him a winner with McKee picking up the mount. MARK MY WAY drops back to the bottom after an even effort against better and looks like the main competition. HANDY CANDY drops in class and has to be considered.

RACE 8
KENTUCKY KITTEN has been idle since breaking his maiden back in December. He also has been training well and can make it two in a row for Maker and McKee. UNION RATE should get a good trip from the inside post and is the one to beat. PASS SET HIT has the speed to be dangerous.
