CovCath, Notre Dame team up to raise money for Emergency Shelter of NKY in annual volleyball match

As part of Catholic Schools Week, Covington Catholic High School and Notre Dame Academy teamed up to raise money for the Emergency Shelter of Northern Kentucky in an annual volleyball match between the two schools.

Every year, beginning in 2013, CovCath and Notre Dame face off in a best-of-three volleyball match. The first and third games are between the students of each school, and the second game features the teachers and staff of each school in a friendly competition. The two student sections come out in force to support their schools to give the night a fun atmosphere filled with plenty of spirit and rivalry.

In the spirit of having fun, the students in the cheering sections dress as the students from the opposite school.

The evening concluded with over $2,600 raised to benefit the Emergency Shelter of Northern Kentucky.

The emergency shelter provides adults a safe and warm place to sleep during the winter. Kim Webb, shelter director, was in attendance on January 31 and reported on her organization’s mission and the community needs that are addressed by the students’ fundraising and community service opportunities.

The student senate officers from each school will visit the center later this month to present the check to Webb. The officers will also get a tour of the facility and be invited to perform community service at the shelter.

Covington Catholic High School is a Blue Ribbon of Excellence award winning college preparatory high school within the Diocese of Covington. It is an all-male school of 592 whose mission is to embrace the Gospel message of Jesus Christ in order to educate students spiritually, academically, physically and socially.
