Camp Joyful Hearts is a residential summer camp only found in Cincinnati for kids and teens with heart disease. It offers many exciting camp activities such as swimming, high ropes, campfires, stargazing and much more! All activities are adapted to each child’s abilities. A pediatric cardiologist and cardiac nurses are onsite 24 hours a day. The cost for just one camper is $550, though the entire cost for camp is covered by private sponsorship, so it is accessible for families who may already be struggling with medical costs. Growing up with heart disease can be a significant physical and emotional challenge.

Northern Kentucky native and Realtor Sara Mirus is the founder of Hearts Are Trump. Sara’s son, Parker, was diagnosed with tetralogy of fallot, a congenital heart disease, at 6 days of age. He attended Camp Joyful Hearts in 2010 for the first time when he was 8 years old. This camp was his first experience surrounded by kids “just like him” who also had heart disease.

Through Camp Joyful Hearts, the Heart Institute at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital strives to help kids with heart disease overcome these challenges with a support network of kids in similar circumstances. ‘Heart’ kids of all different levels of ability share in the joy of summer camp that Camp Joyful Hearts offers. Over 120 kids were at last year’s camp, including Sara’s son Parker, who is now 16.

“Each year I am amazed at the generosity of Heart supporters” said silent auction chairperson Carrie Rogiers. “Last year we donated $22,000 to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital for the camp, putting us over $100,000 in donations total.” Hearts Are Trump was recognized this past December by Children’s Hospital at their annual Evening of Champions dinner.
