Larry Blundred to be at Crestview Hills’ Joseph-Beth Friday to sign ‘Staying Resilient’ about wife’s survival

Cincinnati author Larry Blundred and his wife, Donna, will appear at a book signing on Friday at 7 p.m. at Joseph-Beth’s Crestview Hills.

Blundred wrote the newly released Staying Resilient: When Life Throws You More Than a Curveball (Winters Publishing, Greensburg, 2017).

The 112-page book reveals the author’s journey of resiliency after Donna was diagnosed with a Grade IV brain tumor in June 2012 and was told by doctors she had six to 12 months to live.

“Our goal with the book is to encourage, support and offer hope to those hit by a life curveball — something that can knock you off your feet and leave you flat on your back wondering if you’ll ever stand again,” said Blundred.

“Our curveball happened to be a brain tumor the size of a baseball. But ‘life curveballs’ come in different shapes and sizes, and you never see them coming,” said Donna. “Our book seeks to remind you – or friends and loved ones who care – that it is not over yet … that adversity can still be a catalyst for resiliency.”

Now, more than five years later, with faith, perseverance and the love and support of friends and family and a blend of tailored medical and natural treatments, Donna is considered by her oncologist, Dr. Richard Curry, to be “clear.”

Staying Resilient can be read on its own or with a small group for discussion. Either way, the couple says, you need not go through a life curveball alone. “In the end, we seek to help others focus on thriving — not just surviving,” Larry said.

Admission to the book signing is free. A portion of all sale proceeds will go to BLOC Ministries (Price Hill), the UC Walk Ahead for the Cure, Crossroads Church and Pink Ribbon Girls.
