NKU Camp Innovation Pathways to College offers STEM-focused classes in spring — a gift idea?

Do you know of an elementary or middle school student who would like to learn more about computer programming and writing code? Northern Kentucky University’s Camp Innovation Pathways to College Program is offering coding and STEM-focused classes as part of their spring catalog of courses.

Camp Innovation is an innovative program designed for youth to discover and explore advanced content and engaged learning. All classes provide the opportunity for students to share interests with other children while exploring pathways to intellectual development, academic enhancement, career explorations, and creative artistic fulfillment.

This spring’s Camp Innovation Program, held Saturdays, March 10-24th, 9-11:30 a.m., features many technology and STEM-focused classes. This includes Minecraft classes for students in grades K-3 and 3-6 where students can use the popular Minecraft video game to build worlds, solve puzzles, craft challenges, and compete in team games and competitions.

NKU’s Camp Innovation Program will also offer a ScratchJr Coding class where primary age students can explore how to snap together graphical programming blocks to make characters move, jump, dance, and sing. Students in the ScratchJr class will also learn basic programming logic, improve their math skills, and create games/activities.

Students in upper elementary grades can select the Video Game Developers course where they will learn the skills and techniques necessary to design and program their own video games using professional game development software. They will expand their skills while learning how to incorporate a multitude of fun new features into video games.

Middle school students are invited to join the Computer Code Masters class where they will learn to code using the Python programming language–the same language that helped build YouTube! The Computer Code Masters class will dive into learning how computers solve program and develop skills in writing actual computer code. They are also welcome to explore the Science of Drones to discover how drones work, how they are used in daily lives, and create videos and explore with an actual drone.
