NKCAC connected to a giving business through BBB’s Gain by Giving program, got painting done

When the Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission needed help painting a few rooms, it turned to a new community program designed to connect it with a business that could lend a hand.

As a community-focused nonprofit, NKCAC’s primary mission is to help individuals and families develop profitable skills and achieve self-reliance. As a necessity, the majority of its resources are utilized in an effort to achieve that goal, not on internal needs.

That’s where Gain by Giving came in.

Rhonda Chisenhall, Vice President of Community Development for NKCAC, Dale Cassett, owner of New World Painting & Decorating Inc. and Corinne Siebel, Charity Accreditation Specialist, BBB Center for Ethics.

“It’s a wonderful thing for nonprofits, especially if they have a tight budget for projects they can’t quite get to,” said Rhonda Chisenhall, Vice President of Community Development for NKCAC. “It’s really nice to get small projects like this accomplished before the end of the year.”

Gain by Giving is a way for companies with excess resources, time or materials to connect with nonprofits with matching needs. NKCAC matched with Dale Cassett, owner of New World Painting & Decorating Inc, who was looking for a way to get in on the giving season.

“Work tends to ebb and flow this time of year,” said Cassett. “I got this message about wanting some rooms painted, and I figured we could help out.” BBB Center for Ethics acted as a facilitator, bringing the two organizations together to fulfill NKCAC’s request for aid.

“A couple of his workers came out and got our rooms painted in about three days,” said Chisenhall. “They did a wonderful job; it really looks warm and welcoming. We’re very happy with the work they did.”

Gain by Giving is part of an effort by BBB Center for Ethics to create a more collaborative local community that brings organizational leaders together, connecting companies that can with nonprofits that need. It is open to Accredited Businesses and Charities in the Greater Cincinnati area.
