Kentucky Foundation for Women offering one-time grant to girls of color across the state in the arts

In an effort to elevate the voice and vision of girls of color across the state, the Kentucky Foundation for Women announces one-time grants ranging from $1000 to $7500 for individual artists and organizations in Kentucky who are engaging girls of color, ages eleven to eighteen, in arts-based activities.

Groups or individuals who are focused on the creative expressions, stories and perspectives, strength and spirit of girls of color through art making are encouraged to apply.

“The voices of girls of color are often intentionally dismissed, left out, or silenced.  The purpose of this grant is to elevate the voices and lived experience of girls of color through shared stories and artmaking,” said Sharon LaRue, Executive Director of the Kentucky Foundation for Women.

“Artmaking can create a space where diverse voices and perspectives can be heard and inspire action for social change.”

This grant seeks to highlight the stories, voices and artistic expressions of all girls of color across the state, including girls of color in Appalachia, western Kentucky, central Kentucky and northern Kentucky; girls of African, Latinx, Arab, Asian, and Native American heritage; stories of girls of color who identify as lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer; girls of color who are growing up in military, same-gender or other nontraditional families; girls of color growing up in rural and urban communities.

This grant is offered in addition to KFW’s regular grant programs.

KFW is committed to making grants accessible to all, regardless of age, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, physical ability, educational level, economic condition or geographic origin.

Applicants must reside in Kentucky. All applications must be submitted by March 2, 2018 at 5 p.m. EST. Full information and guidelines are available at the website.

The Kentucky Foundation for Women is a private foundation formed in 1985 by Louisville writer Sallie Bingham.  Its mission is to promote positive social change by supporting varied feminist expression in the arts.
