Government Briefs: Union receives sidewalk grant; Boone County conducts citizen academy

The City of Union has received a $1,500 grant from the Kentucky League of Cities Insurance Services (KLCIS).

The grant will be used for sidewalk upgrades to meet American with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards in the Lassing Green subdivision area.

“We are excited to use this grant to ensure our sidewalks are safer and more accessible to everyone in the city,” said David Plummer, City Administrator.  “We are always looking for ways to bring the most benefit to our citizens while still being fiscally conservative and responsible with taxpayer money.”

KLCIS helps members increase public safety with a number of proactive programs and services.

Kentucky League of Cities Insurance Services has awarded in excess of $4 million since the Liability Grant Program in 1999.  Previous grants have been used to provide training and equipment upgrades throughout the state.

“Our philosophy is to prevent injuries and claims from happening,” said Jon Steiner, executive director/CEO.  “We want to partner with our members, and this liability grant promotes good risk management.  There is no better way to invest our member’s money.”

KLCIS provides liability grants to its members annually.  It is Kentucky’s largest municipal insurance program and provides a wide variety of products and services to their members.
