Daniel Edward Greis indicted on counts of murder in accident on Staffordsburg Road that killed family


The Kenton County Grand Jury has indicted Daniel Edward Greis, 57, of Independence, for 5 counts of Murder in connection with the October 26 crash that killed the Pollitt family on Staffordsburg Road in Southern Kenton County, according to the Kenton County Commonwealth Attorney’s office.

Each charge carries a possible sentence of 20 to 50 years or life in prison.

Killed in the crash were Rodney Pollitt, 26, Samantha Malohn, 27 of Dry Ridge, Hailieann Pollitt, 9, Brenden Pollitt, 8, and Cailie Pollitt, 6, all of Dry Ridge.

Arraignment on the charges is scheduled for 9 a.m. on January 2, 2018 before Kenton Circuit Judge Patricia Summe in Courtroom 6A.

Arraignment date/time is subject to change because Greis must be transported from the Kentucky State Reformatory in LaGrange where he is receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained in the crash.

Case investigation was by the Kenton County Police. Assigned prosecutors are Commonwealth’s Attorney Rob Sanders and Asst. Commonwealth’s Attorney Maria Schletker.

The Commonwealth Attorney’s office reminds that an indictment is only a charge and all defendants are considered innocent until proven guilty.
