Go Pantry aims to distribute 300 food boxes to needy family during Christmas break; fill a box for $60

GO Pantry, a Boone County based 501(c)3 non-profit, which provides weekend food bags (GO BAGS) during the school year and weekly food boxes (GO BOXES) to help over extended breaks from school. Currently the organization has a goal of providing 300 GO BOXES to help kids get through the two week Christmas Break.

“Kids who depend on school for the majority of their food often do not have a place to turn to during long school breaks. This is a very scary situation for many children and families,” states Laura Dumancic, one of the founders of GO Pantry.

The cost to fill a Christmas Break box is approximately $60.

The organization has created a Sign-Up Genius to allow individuals or groups to sign-up to provide items for the GO Boxes.

To date just over half of the boxes have had volunteers sign-up to provide. The organization is asking families, coworkers, neighbors, club and sports teams, churches or just anyone who wants to work together to sign up to purchase the items for one or more boxes prior to December 3rd.

“Working together as a group or family to purchase the items for a GO BOX is a wonderful way to start off the holiday season” states Beth McIntire, another founder of GO Pantry.

“While you are out shopping on Black Friday, we ask individuals to make one of their stops at the grocery store to pick up the much needed items for these families.” A list of items and a printable shopping list can be found on the GO Pantry website.

Once items are purchased, they may be dropped off at Master Provisions located at 7725 Foundation Drive in Florence on Sunday, December 3rd from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. Volunteers will be on hand to help you unload your donations without the need for you to leave your car.

If you are out of town or unable to shop for items, donations may be made on the GO Pantry website.

Volunteers are needed on Wednesday, November 29th and Sunday, December 3rd to help move, unload, sort, package (GO BAGS for December and the GO BOXES) and transport the GO BOXES. A Sign-Up Genius to volunteer is available at the website.

People who can lift heavy boxes are especially encourage to volunteer. Considering swapping your workout time at the gym for lifting boxes for GO Pantry.
