Gateway celebrating philanthropy by promoting events that make a difference in our communities

Gateway Community & Technical College and Foundation celebrate National Philanthropy Day (NPD) by promoting opportunities for students, faculty and staff to give back and make a difference in the communities we serve.

Giving back to our communities is at the very core of why Gateway exists and why our Gateway Foundation Board members choose to serve.

When asked about Gateway’s impact in the community, Talia Frye, Workforce Development Director at Brighton Center said, “Gateway’s partnership and support over the last three years with the Build A Dream project has led to 250 Northern Kentucky children, who were formerly sleeping on the floor, receiving brand new twin beds. We can always rely on Gateway to be great partners in the work.”

Gateway has launched its 2017 Season of Giving Back.

Below are events the college has planned through the National Day of Service on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Gateway invites the college community, and others interested in serving, to participate.

Nov. 18 – Neighborhood Blitz to Fight Heroin

You can make a difference by going door-to-door helping educate community members about how to help fight the opiate and heroin epidemic. You don’t have to knock on doors; you only need to walk and help spread the word by leaving a door hanger at each house. If you’re willing to be a part of the team, email John.Stanton@KentonCounty.org and let him know you’d like to join the 11/18 team.  Nov. 18, 9:30 a.m., Elsmere Senior Center, 179 Dell Avenue, Elsmere.

Nov. 19 – Gateway 2 Maslow’s Army Basic Needs Outreach Day

The Gateway Foundation is collaborating with Maslow’s Army – a 501c3 organization founded by Gateway alumni Susan and Sam Landis – to combat homelessness and fight the opioid epidemic in the region.

Nov. 23 – Fall Feast Cincinnati

Give Back Cincinnati’s Fall Feast is bigger and better than ever. The food and fun are always free and abundant, and so is the community love. The focus is always on making a difference in the guests’ lives, especially the homeless and under-served. Join 4,000 of your neighbors on Nov. 23 to give thanks, eat heartily, laugh cheerfully and enjoy the best Thanksgiving you will ever have! Maslow’s Army will also be participating in this worthwhile event! Registration for Fall Feast 2017 volunteers is now open! Sign up now to claim your spot as volunteer opportunities for the event will quickly fill up. Click here to learn more and sign up to volunteer.

Nov. 25 – Shop Small Saturday in Covington

Renaissance Covington is once again gearing up for Shop Small Saturday! The event is planned for Nov. 25 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Gateway’s TIE building will be a “Hub” of activity where shoppers can stop in to get information such as maps & swag bags (including various coupons/discounts and free items from local shops/eateries in Covington). The Gallery and first floor of the Gateway TIE building will be transformed into a wonderland of vendors with unique gifts for all holiday shopping lists. The Gateway Bookstore will be giving away coffee and hot chocolate and have free holiday color stations throughout the day. They also have 25% off all clothing and an assortment of Holiday books, gift items and Christmas cards.

Nov. 28 – Giving Tuesday

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.
