Former Notre Dame Academy volleyball standouts Klare, Ogle enjoying success at college level

Former Notre Dame Academy standout Meredith Klare is digging her way into the Xavier University volleyball record books.

Klare, a junior libero and the anchor of Xavier’s back row, finished this season with a Big East Conference – leading 520 digs (4.37 apg). Those 520 digs this fall rank fourth in Xavier single-season history.

The 5-foot-7 Klare will enter next year with 1,481 career digs, which is No. 4 all-time in Musketeer history. Stephanie Vorherr finished with 2,152 digs and owns the Xavier all-time record in that category.

Klare helped Xavier defeat Seton Hall in the season finale by collecting a team-high 17 digs to go along with five assists. The Musketeers (13-19 overall record) closed out the 2017 campaign with three consecutive victories and won six of their final eight matches. Xavier posted an 8-10 record in Big East Conference play.

In October, Klare earned a spot on the Big East Conference weekly honor role for the second time this season. She averaged 5.67 digs per in two road matches that week, while adding five assists and one ace. Klare had posted a match-high 19 digs at Marquette and a match-high 15 digs at DePaul to earn the weekly recognition from the Big East.

As a star volleyball player in high school, Klare helped Notre Dame to a state runner-up finish in 2013. She was also a four-time member of the KHSAA Academic All-State Team.

OGLE HELPS UC FINISH 11-9 IN AAC: Notre Dame Academy graduate and volleyball standout Elly Ogle recently completed her junior year at the University of Cincinnati, and the Ft. Mitchell native enjoyed a successful season on the court for the Bearcats.

Ogle finished with 175 kills and 258 digs as UC posted a 13-19 overall record. Playing at right-side hitter, the 5-foot-11 Ogle helped the Bearcats finish 11-9 in the American Athletic Conference.

Prior to transferring to UC, Ogle spent two seasons at LSU. She was named to LSU’s Dean’s List and the SEC Academic Honor Roll in 2015.

While playing setter at Notre Dame, Ogle earned four letters and finished as the Pandas’ all-time career leader in assists (3,439) while leading the team to three 9th Region championships. One of the top setters in Kentucky, Ogle earned all-state accolades in 2013 as well as 9th Region Player of the Year honors. She also tallied a Notre Dame single-season record 1,017 assists in 2012.

An outstanding athlete, Ogle was also a four-year letterwinner in basketball at Notre Dame scored more than 1,000 career points. Ogle’s family has an impressive sports background as her mother, Joan, played volleyball at Eastern Kentucky University, and her father, Mark, lettered in basketball, baseball and golf for Centre College.
