Florence development update shows projects completed, under construction and in the pipeline

The City of Florence 2017 Third Quarter Development Update recognized established businesses, identified completed projects and those under construction and highlighted a few still on the drawing board.

In September, Metzger Eye Care, one of the oldest existing businesses in the city, celebrated 60 years of service.

The Metzger Family has been involved in eye care for almost 100 years beginning with Dr. Leo and Edward Metzger and then Dr. Ferd Metzger, Dr. Bill Metzger, Dr. Julie Metzger and student doctor Bryan Metzger who represent four generations of Metzger’s dedicated to eye care.

Dr. Ferd Metzger’s daughter, now Julie Metzger Aubuchon, who is also the City’s vice mayor, purchased the business in 1995, along with state of the art diagnostic testing equipment for the treatment and management of eye diseases.

In October, Steffen’s Rental, one of the oldest existing businesses along the US 42 corridor within the city, celebrated 40 years of serving the community.

Beginning on Madison Pike in the late 1940’s, Steffen’s Rental flourished and became a staple in the community. In the 1970’s the children of Robert Steffen, led by Gerald “Jerry” Steffen continued to grow the company, moving it to its current location on Pike Street. and branching out to its second location in Florence, where it has continued to flourish.

New development also continues in Florence, with several projects added to the landscape and others in various phases of construction.

Completed projects include the Comfort Suites Hotel on Merchant Drive, Magnolia Springs Senior Living on Ewing Boulevard and Hilton Home2 Suites on Woodspoint Drive.

There are some new entertainment options in Florence as well.

ILoveKickboxing, a new to the market chain on US42 is also now open and offers classes from beginner to advanced.

The former XhilaRacing on Spiral Drive has been purchased by Full Throttle Indoor Carting. All carts have been upgraded to gasoline powered and the track and ventilation systems have been renovated.

Bear Paddle Swim Club is now open on Seligman Drive. It features a salt water, heated pool and offers swim classes and pool parties.

New to the market dining options include Corelife Eatery on Houston Road and Rapid Fired Pizza on Mall Road.

Biggby Coffee on US 42, a new Chick-fil-A and an Outback Steakhouse on Mall Road, are also all now open.

There are a number of projects currently under construction, including Dominion Senior Living on Seligman Drive, a 60-unit, 84-bed facility scheduled for completion in the Spring of next year.

Other projects under construction include Victory Lane Oil Change on Bill Wentz Drive and US 42, scheduled for completion in the Fall and Brass Tap on Bankers Street, with over 300 beers on tap. The new to the market restaurant is scheduled to open in the Spring of 2018.

Projects in the pipeline include the Evergreen Apartments, which consists of 12 buildings on Evergreen Drive, which is currently being considered for approval by the Boone County Planning Commission.

The Weaver Road Subdivision in the 900 Block of Weaver Road is proposed as 11 single-family homes and is going through the major site plan review process.

The long-anticipated Menards on Apex Lane site plan has been resubmitted to the Boone County Planning Commission for revisions with construction tentatively scheduled to start in 2018.
