The City Commission of the City of Union declared a property located at 10087 Old Union Road as surplus property at the October 11 meeting.
The former Union Community Building at 10087 Old Union Road has been declared surplus property (Googlemaps).
The property, formerly the Union Community Building, was approved to be “surplus” and will be placed up for sealed bid to the public for disposal per Kentucky statue.
The Building was purchased by the city at a cost of $375,000 in 2008.
The Commission released the following statement to explain its decision:
“The citizens of Union desires a community center, but this building is not good for that purpose. It would require so many upgrades and major expense to improve and would still not be an ideal community center for our growing city. When we looked at the options, improve an aging building with not an ideal floor plan or constructing a new, modern and more flexible use building for our citizens, there simply wasn’t a comparison. By selling this building, we will be able to move forward toward a new era and build a building that is more in line with what the community needs and desires from a community center.”
In additional business, the commission amended an ordinance allowing distilled spirit sales by the drink to move from 1 p.m. on Sunday to 11 a.m. on Sunday. The commission also approved the annexation of property on Old Union Road belonging to Don Goderwis, Jr. into the City of Union. Mr. Goderwis had connecting property already within the city limits, and this annexation brings the remaining parcel into the city limits.
