Thomas More College plans to honor head football coach Regis Scafe’s long and successful coaching career with great fanfare at the Saints’ final game of the season against Thiel College on Nov. 4.
The game will kick-off at 12 p.m. at BB&T Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky and Scafe will be feted with pre- and post-game festivities.
Scafe is retiring at the end of the season after coaching football for the past 45 years. He is in his third season as the head coach at Thomas More. Scafe has a 23-7 record on the sidelines in Crestview Hills, where he has guided the Saints to two Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) championships and two appearances in the NCAA Division III Championship, including a second round appearance in 2015.

He was named the PAC Coach of the Year in 2015 and 2016 and was named the D3football.com South Region Coach of the Year in 2015.
Scafe has a 127-97 record in 22 years as a collegiate head coach. Prior to his arrival at Thomas More, he was the head coach at John Carroll University for 14 seasons and spent five seasons as the head coach at his alma mater Case Western Reserve University. Scafe’s 88 victories at John Carroll are the second-most in school history, and he led the Blue Streaks to nine winning seasons and the NCAA Division III semifinals in 2002.
He also spent 15 years coaching at Chanel High School in the Cleveland, Ohio area. Scafe was Chanel’s head football coach from 1978-87, Athletic Director from 1984-87, assistant coach from 1972-78 and was the wrestling coach in 1978. Scafe was inducted into the Chanel Hall of Fame in 2000.
Thomas More would like to invite all the Chanel, Case Western Reserve, John Carroll, and Thomas More football alums and assistant coaches that have played or coached for Scafe to attend the game as guests of the College and thank him for all he has done for them and the sport of football.
All of Scafe’s alums are asked to join him at 11:50 a.m. as he and his final group of seniors make their final Saints Walk into BB&T Field. Then, between the first and second quarters the College will honor all of Coach Scafe’s former student-athletes and former assistant coaches.
Following the game, Thomas More will host a reception in Steigerwald Hall, which is located inside the Saints Center on the college’s campus. At the reception, Coach Scafe’s 45-year legendary career will be celebrated and a ceremonial hand-off of the head coaching duties to Thomas More alumnus Trevor Stellman ’10 will also occur.
Stellman, who is in his eighth year as an assistant coach will be the first-ever former Blue Rebel/Saint to be the head football coach at Thomas More.
