The original report from the Boone County Sheriff’s office is included below:

On Monday, October 23, 2017, at 2:30 p.m. a two vehicle traffic collision on Camp Ernst Road (KY 237) just north of Bluestem Drive in Burlington, Kentucky sent two children passengers to the hospital with life threatening injuries and both drivers to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

A 2007 Honda Civic operated by Ashley Miller, 30, of Florence, Kentucky, was traveling northbound on Camp Ernst Road (KY 237) just north of Bluestem Drive when she lost control of her vehicle, overcorrected the steering, and crossed the center line into the opposing southbound lane of traffic. Miller then struck a 2003 Saab 9-3, operated by Karlie Ferguson, 19, of Burlington, Kentucky, who was traveling southbound on Camp Ernst Road. After striking Ferguson’s vehicle, Miller’s vehicle was redirected across the southbound side of the roadway and into the front yard of 6809 Camp Ernst Road. The entire roadway was blocked as a result of the collision.

Miller was transporting two children aged less than 2 years old in her vehicle. One child, Chase Knapp, 1 of Melbourne, Kentucky was transported to Children’s Hospital by medical helicopter with life-threatening injuries. The other child, Madlynn Petry, 1, of Florence, Kentucky was also transported to Children’s Hospital by a separate medical helicopter with serious injuries. Miller was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Florence with minor injuries. Ferguson refused medical treatment on scene however later on requested transport to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Florence with minor injuries.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Unit is handling the investigation. No charges have been filed at this time. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts and both children were seated in car seats in the rear of the vehicle. The rainy conditions, wet roadway, and driving too fast for conditions are preliminary suspected factors in the collision. Camp Ernst Road (KY 237) was closed for approximately two (2) hours and was reopened at 4:45 p.m. Anyone with information or potential witnesses should contact Sgt. Jason Noel of the Boone County Sheriff’s Office at 859-334-3911.
