A Fort Thomas man has been charged with manslaughter in connection to a three-car accident near Florence in April that claimed the life of one of the drivers.

Boone County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Maxwell Detzel, 23, Tuesday afternoon. He has been charged with Manslaughter 2nd Degree (Felony), Criminal Mischief 1st Degree 2 counts (Felony), Assault 4th Degree (Misdemeanor), and DUI 2nd Offense Aggravator (Misdemeanor).
In a release issued at the time of the April 22 accident, the Sheriff’s office indicates Detzel was traveling northbound on Dixie Highway (US 25) near the intersection of Totten Lane, when he failed to negotiate a curve.
The report states the 1995 Camaro driven by Detzel struck a 2007 Dodge Magnum driven by Ernest Wright of Cincinnati, who was traveling southbound on Dixie Highway. Detzel’s vehicle continued on, and struck a 2000 Honda Civic operated by Joshua Ray, 26, of Fort Mitchell, who was also traveling in the southbound lane of Dixie Highway, according to the report.
Ray was pronounced dead at the scene by Florence EMS. Both Detzel and Wright were transported to University Medical Center by separate Air Care medical helicopters with suspected critical injuries. Police say none of the involved drivers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the collision.
The Boone County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Unit handled the initial investigation. At the time of the incident, a police report indicated alcohol and speed were suspected as factors in the collision.
Detzel is lodged at the Boone County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond.
Police arrest Florence man following high-speed chase
Florence Police arrested David Goderwis early Wednesday morning, following a pursuit that began at the Interstate 75 rest area near Richwood and ended in Verona.
Goderwis, of Florence, is a suspect in an attempted burglary on Glen Arbor Drive in Boone County Tuesday morning.
The Boone County Sheriff’s office released the following statement regarding the incident:
On Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at approximately 11:40 a.m. a homeowner in the 7100 block of Glen Arbor Drive near Florence, Kentucky walked into his garage only to find a man there holding a leaf blower, drill, and drill charger all of which belonged to the homeowner. The homeowner pushed the would-be burglar out of his garage and exchanged a few choice words with him as he followed him down his driveway to the street where he (homeowner) got the license plate number of the thief’s car as he drove away.
Deputy Don Taylor investigated the burglary and by the end of his shift had obtained an arrest warrant for David Goderwis, 39 of Florence, Kentucky and broadcast an attempt to locate for Goderwis and his vehicle.
On Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at approximately 2:45 a.m. Florence Police Officer Michael Geis located Goderwis’ vehicle at the I-75 southbound rest area and attempted to stop it. Goderwis fled leading a pursuit to Poole Road in Verona, Kentucky where he was arrested on multiple traffic and criminal charges.
