Florence to honor America’s military with Veterans Day program, Half Marathon to benefit Honor Flight


The City of Florence will recognize America’s military with events scheduled for Veterans Day weekend.

The City of Florence will conduct its annual Veterans Day Program on Saturday, November 11, at 2 p.m. at the Florence Government Center (Lower Level), 8100 Ewing Boulevard.

Join the City in honoring military veterans for their sacrifice and service to America.

The program will feature a speech by Captain Travis Johnson from The Renegades, the Florence Community Band & Chorus performing patriotic tunes and recognizing the contributions made by all Veterans.

Honor Run

The 3rd Annual Honor Run Half Marathon will run on Sunday, November 12, beginning at 7 a.m. streets along the race route will be closed from 6:45am and will reopen once the race is complete.

The race, which is a rolling 13.1 mile course throughout the City of Florence and parts of unincorporated Boone County, will start and finish at the iconic Florence Y’all water tower.

Events include the Half Marathon, 2-Person Relay, Kids One Mile and new to the event this year a 5K race.

The scenic tour includes the following landmarks:

  • Florence Y’all Water Tower
  • Florence Mall
  • Mall Road Business District
  • Houston Road Business District
  • Turfway Park Race Course

All proceeds from the run will go to Honor Flight Tri-State and will help send local veterans who served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam to Washington D.C. to view their respective memorials.
