Covington Catholic sophomore Sean Boyer gets Honor Camper award from Camp Ernst

Covington Catholic High School announces that sophomore Sean Boyer has been recognized with the highest accolade by YMCA Camp Ernst.

Out of over 4,000 campers who attended YMCA Camp Ernst this year, Sean Boyer was among the two percent who won the prestigious Honor Camper award. The Honor Camper award was created in 1928 by Camp Ernst Founder Willard Wade to recognize campers with outstanding character and leadership.

Camp Ernst’s staff of more than 200 counselors nominate and vote on campers who they believe display YMCA’s core character values of honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility at the end of each weeklong session. The Honor Campers are awarded tin cups with their names engraved on them. Identical cups are hung along with all other previous winners, some dating back to the 1940’s, in the historic dining hall at Camp Ernst. Sean will forever be remembered with his own tin cup for years to come.

“Campers like Sean made our job easier,” counselor Jackie Healey said. “We do not just want to recognize the fastest runner in the track meet or the best singer at the campfire, but also those who helped others and showed true leadership all week.”

Sean is the son of Marty and Shannan Boyer. He attended Prince of Peace grade school and is a member of St. John Parish.

Covington Catholic High School is a Blue Ribbon of Excellence award winning college preparatory high school within the Diocese of Covington. It is an all-male school of 592 whose mission is to embrace the Gospel message of Jesus Christ in order to educate students spiritually, academically, physically and socially.
