The City of Covington has issued 2017-2018 green stickers to property owners as it continues to promote green and healthy best practices for Covington’s neighborhoods and environment.
Covington provides single family property owners as well as multi-family property owners with less than five units, 12 green stickers annually.
Stickers have been mailed to the property owners. Landlords should be on the lookout for the green stickers and make them available to their tenants. Tenants should contact their landlord if they have not received a green sticker and need to set out large items.
Please reference the green sticker for more information regarding the program’s guidelines. Additional green stickers can be purchased at City Hall located at 20 West Pike Street, Covington.
The green sticker program allows citizens to put out trash that won’t fit into the cart. One sticker can be used to dispose one large item or of up to six 30-gallon bags of trash or yard waste.
The guidelines are:
▪ Place one sticker on every large item or 30-gallon bag of trash set out for collection that is not contained in a cart. One sticker can be used for up to six additional bags of trash.
▪ If you are disposing of yard waste, loose shrubbery or tree limbs must be bundled and tied in lengths no larger than 4 feet long and 2 feet wide. Bundles should not exceed 50 pounds and should be marked with a green sticker.
▪ Prepare large items for collection. For example, mattresses, box springs and upholstered furniture should be wrapped and sealed in plastic and Freon should be properly removed from appliances.
▪ Alert Rumpke 48-hours prior to the collection day of their intention of disposing of a large item.
Solid Waste Coordinator Sheila Fields stated, “These programs provide much needed education and are important to the positive growth of our City.
“A healthy, clean, green and beautiful City is a place where people want to live, work and play. We all need to do our part, and through these programs, we are taking responsibility to ensure our City is cleaner and greener.”
In July 2015, the City partnered with Keep Covington Beautiful and Rumpke Waste & Recycling to promote stewardship in the community and the environment through ongoing efforts to keep the City clean, healthy and green.
Through its partnerships, the City adopted the Waste & Recycling Program and the Green Sticker Program with the mission to keep neighborhoods, City streets and sidewalks clean and promote the reduction, recycling and reuse of materials.
In recent years, it was common to see unwanted piles of bulk debris, household furniture, and loose trash placed in front of residential properties. The improper and unsightly trash setouts created health and safety hazards for neighbors while diminishing the beauty and charm of the City’s neighborhoods leading to decreased property values.
Fields stated, “Some setouts would sit on the curb for weeks. With the implementation of the volume based Waste & Recycling Program, property owners and residents now have a guide to assist them with proper waste management.”
All trash and debris is required to be placed in the City issued cart and any items that do not fit in the cart require a green sticker.
