Empower Tools’ EmpowerU offers DIY workshop series; Gus Wolf presenting free workshop on trees


As the leaves begin to turn, Covington’s newest tool lending service, Empower Tools, will continue EmpowerU, its DIY workshop series, on Wednesday, September 27 with a workshop on tree care.

Gus Wolf of Wolf Tree Farms will lead the second workshop in the EmpowerU series on tree health which, will cover how to care for healthy and diseased trees, as well as the best way to plant new trees. The workshop, sponsored by Keep Covington Beautiful, is free and will take place from 6-7 p.m. at Empower Tools (305 W. Pike St., Covington).

Additional workshops on topics including electric work, weatherizing your home, and more will be scheduled in the coming months. Community members with topic suggestions for the DIY workshops and skilled volunteers willing to lead workshops should contact Empower Tools at CovingtonEmpowerTools@gmail.com or 859.414.6036. Empower Tools is open Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., and Wednesdays from 4-7 p.m.

Funding for Empower Tools was secured through the Kresge Foundation and Friends of the Kenton County Public Library. Additional funding comes from the Elsa Heisel Sule Foundation, a local grant making foundation focused on opportunities in education, the community, and arts in the tri-state area.

The Sule Foundation awarded Empower Tools $15,000 to cover part time staffing costs for one year and pay for additional tool needs.

Empower Tools is the result of a partnership between The Center for Great Neighborhoods, the Kenton County Public Library, and Wolf Tree Farms.
