Thomas More checks in at No. 19 in D3football.com preseason football top 25


The Thomas More College football team is ranked in the D3football.com Preseason Top-25.

The Saints were voted No. 19 in the poll by a panel of 25 coaches, Sports Information Directors and media members from across the country. Thomas More finished No. 18 in the internet website’s Top-25 at the conclusion of the 2016 season.

Thomas More finished last year with a 9-2 overall record and an 8-0 mark in Presidents’ Athletic Conference play. Their unblemished league mark in 2016 was the program’s second straight after going 8-0 in 2015.

With last year’s conference title, Thomas More secured the league’s automatic qualifying bid while earning the program’s eighth NCAA Division III Championship Playoff appearance, suffering a 33-30 four overtime loss at home to Wittenberg University on Nov. 19.

Thomas More, which started football in 1990, has amassed a .722 win percentage by going 203-78 in 26 years of football. In 26 seasons of football Thomas More has had six undefeated regular seasons (1991, 1995, 2001, 2009, 2010 and 2015), eight Division III Playoff appearances (1992, 2001, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2015 and 2016) and has claimed eight Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016) and five Association of Mideast Colleges (AMC) Championships (1991, 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1995).

The Saints kickoff the season on Saturday, Sept. 2 when they host Franklin College at 1 p.m. at BB&T Field in Crestview Hills.
