NKY Sports Hall of Fame will give two special awards during end-of-summer ceremony


The Northern Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame will give two special awards during an end-of-summer ceremony at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23 at Latonia American Legion Post 203 on Winston Avenue in Covington.

John Boh will receive the Bill Cappel Volunteerism Award for helping organize Hall of Fame exhibits at Behringer-Crawford Museum in Devou Park. He has also written several articles on local history, including ones that appeared in the Encyclopedia of Northern Kentucky History.

Dave Epplen will receive a Years of Service Award for his work with youth sports in the area. He is a past president of Greater Cincinnati Knothole and director of District 28 Knothole in Northern Kentucky. He was also involved in youth football and basketball leagues.

The awards ceremony is open to the public. NKU men’s basketball coach John Brannen will be the guest speaker. Tickets will be $10 at the door, which includes food. There will be a cash bar and tickets for door prizes and Split the Pot. Displays with items from Hall of Fame members will be provided by Behringer-Crawford Museum.

Proceeds from the end-of-summer event will go to the Northern Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame Scholarship Fund. The organization will resume its monthly induction meetings on Wednesday, Sept, 20 at 1 p.m. at Villa Hills Civic Club.
