Gov. Bevin and Braidy Industries’ Bouchard talk leadership, development at Local Issues Luncheon

Gov. Matt Bevin and Braidy Industries CEO Craig Bouchard shared center stage Thursday at the 42nd annual Local Issues Conference Governor’s Luncheon at the Galt House in Louisville. They discussed key developments and decisions that led to one of the most historic economic investments in Eastern Kentucky.

“I am blessed by the opportunity to speak to people like Craig Bouchard on a weekly basis, as we try to attract companies like Braidy Industries to Kentucky,” said Gov. Bevin. “There is nothing magical about the economic development process. My primary focus is to encourage prospects to come to the Commonwealth. From there, you help determine whether the company locates in your community by being prepared. Having your i’s dotted and your t’s crossed is imperative.”

Braidy Industries announced in April that they will construct a $1.3-billion, 2.5 million-square-foot aluminum mill in Greenup County. The mill plans to produce sheets and plates for the automotive and aerospace industries and the U.S. Department of the Defense. The facility will add an estimated 550 advanced manufacturing jobs and company executives to the Commonwealth.

“One of the most remarkable things about Kentucky is that it is a state poised for growth,” said Bouchard. “Kentucky is serious about taking leadership in developing opportunities for substantial economic investment and job creation. There are already many work-ready and skills-ready employees, who are looking for the next career opportunity. The Braidy Industries team is excited about what lies ahead and we cannot wait to the see the results.”

The annual Governor’s Local Issues Conference brings together county and city government officials and community advocates from across the Commonwealth for education and networking through a variety of workshops and general sessions.

“I am beyond thrilled that the Governor and Mr. Bouchard were able to discuss this important milestone achievement for Eastern Kentucky and more importantly, showcase leadership at the local level,” said Department for Local Government (DLG) Commissioner Sandra Dunahoo. “Leadership is a commitment to set aside difference and serve one another.  When we do that, only then can we do big things. Nothing can really be accomplished if we do not rally together.”
