With a little less than two weeks left, much of Western Kentucky is gearing up to become the epicenter of the 2017 total solar eclipse.
Hopkinsville, in Christian County, will be the point of “greatest eclipse” with 2 minutes and 40 seconds of totality on Aug. 21 at 1:24 p.m. CDT.
In addition to Hopkinsville, 15 other cities are in the path of totality and offer wonderful viewing opportunities. Not only are these cities offering awesome views, but there are also numerous special events, activities and one-of-a-kind experiences planned all weekend to celebrate the eclipse.

Events include a free concert in Madisonville featuring Jennifer Nettles, a musical eclipse show in Dawson Springs, a drive-in movie eclipse watching in Franklin, a viewing party in Greenville and other events across the state including train rides, wildlife viewings, balloon rides and baseball games just to name a few.

“With thousands of visitors expected from all over the world, we hope they will extend their stay and visit and participate in many of the activities planned for the eclipse across the Commonwealth,” Kristen Branscum, Commissioner of the Department of Tourism said. “This is an once-in-a-lifetime event and we want to invite everyone to Kentucky to see the eclipse.
“We are the best place to view the totality and we are an easy day’s drive for 80 percent of the U.S.”
