Freedom on the verge of division title; could clinch at home this week against Rascals

The first-place Florence Freedom, presented by Titan Mechanical Solutions, will host the River City Rascals for another key three-game series this week, beginning with a Wednesday doubleheader at UC Health Stadium.

With a record of 54-31, the Freedom currently lead the second-place Evansville Otters by seven games, with third-place River City trailing Evansville by two games. As the West Division-clinching magic number is five, the Freedom have a chance to clinch during the series against the Rascals by sweeping the three-game set, with the added caveat that Evansville loses twice to the Normal CornBelters during their four-game series.

The magic number to clinch a playoff berth is four. A playoff appearance in 2017 would be the fourth in Freedom history, and a division title would be the team’s first.

First pitch of Wednesday’s doubleheader is scheduled for 5:35 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the UC Health Stadium box office, online at florencefreedom.com, or by calling (859) 594-4487.
