Coupons for historic sites, campgrounds available at Kentucky State Parks booth at state fair

The Kentucky State Parks will have a booth during the Kentucky State Fair Aug. 17-27, where visitors can pick up coupons for historic sites and camping.

Visitors can also sign up for drawings for state park giveaways at the booth, located in the Pride of the Counties area in the South Wing.

Park representatives will assist guests in planning a fall getaway, a camping trip or recommend the best hiking trails and fishing spots. Recreation and programming staff will be available to share specific details on elk viewing, wildlife and birding opportunities, educational programs and more.

State Parks will also be working with the Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction to make people aware of the dangers of electric shock drowning.

Electric shock drowning occurs when faulty wiring, equipment or damaged cords on a boat or dock cause surrounding water to be energized with an electric current. There is no visible warning and the electricity is enough to paralyze the muscles of a nearby swimmer, causing them to drown.

In some cases, there may be enough current to electrocute the swimmer.
