Alert motorist helps Florence Police capture man suspected of killing his girlfriend in Goshen


A man suspected of killing his girlfriend was apprehended by Florence Police, thanks to the quick response of an alert and attentive motorist.

Steven T. Mages, 38, of Loveland, is suspected of killing Natasha Wilson, who was pregnant, in Goshen, Ohio, Wednesday morning.

The motorist called 911 and informed a dispatcher that he believed he was following a black Ford Taurus on Interstate 75, which he recognized from local news reports earlier in the day.

Police caught up with the vehicle as it exited onto Richwood Road. The drvier attempted to evade police, who engaged in a pursuit. The driver, identified as the suspect Mages, stopped his vehicle in the middle of the Chambers Road and was taken into custody.

He faces additional charges related to the pursuit and is awaiting extradition in the Boone County Detention Center on the Homicide-Murder Warrant issued by the Goshen Police Department.

The Florence Police Department issued the following statement regarding the incident:

On 08/30/17 the Florence Police Department responded to I75 southbound near the 180 mile marker for someone following a possible murder suspect out of Goshen, OH.

The caller advised that they were behind a 2012 Ford Taurus black in color, with Ohio license plate FRH-2953 and would continue to update their location. Florence Officers were able to catch up to the vehicle as it was exiting onto Richwood Road.

When officers attempted to stop the vehicle the driver accelerated and a vehicle pursuit began. The pursuit continued westbound on Richwood Road and then onto Chambers Road. As the vehicle approached the intersection with Oxford Hills Drive, it came to a stop in the middle of the roadway. The driver was taken into custody without incident and there were no other passengers in the vehicle.

The following individual was the driver of the vehicle and was served with an NCIC Homicide-Murder Warrant from the Goshen Police Department:

Steven T. Mages, 38 years old, Loveland, OH

He will be transported to the Boone County Detention Center to await extradition.
