Leadership Northern Kentucky class’ Unlock the Block Music Fest to ‘activate community virbrancy’

If you haven’t heard about the Unlock the Block Music Fest, you’re about to.

It happens on July 22nd, in the heart of Latonia, a Covington community.

Join the Leadership Northern Kentucky Class of 2017 for the inaugural music fest created to activate community vibrancy and potential in Northern Kentucky! Latonia was chosen as the site for the family friendly event because of its potential, engaged community, and rich history.

Will you help unlock the block?

Unlock the Block will feature lively music from local bands: DV8, rock cover band; Ben Walz, acoustic folk/rock blend; and The Turkeys, folk-rock and Americana.

Music lovers will also enjoy craft beers from Rhinegeist and Wooden Cask Brewing Company, as well as drinks from Second Sight Spirits.

Food vendors will be on site to satisfy every music enthusiast appetite, including Chick fil A at Newport Pavilion, Smokin’ This and That BBQ, Shiver, Kona Ice, Dan the Corn Man, as well as other vendors.

Families can stop by the Activity Zone where kids can check out Skool Aid, get their picture taken with the cow from Chick-fil-A, and see a 3D replica of Johnny’s Castle – a Latonia toy store icon that entertained children for years. Children attending the event will receive a free book to help unlock literacy during the summer months.

During the day, Unlock the Block attendees can take part in historical tours throughout Latonia narrated by a representative from the Kenton County Public Library, and take advantage of in-store and restaurant specials.

Unlock the Block is organized by the Leadership Northern Kentucky class of 2017. Leadership Northern Kentucky is a Northern Kentucky Chamber Foundation program dedicated to developing a diverse group of leaders who serve as catalysts for a stronger community. Each year, as part of the program, a class of business and community leaders embarks upon a project focused on addressing issues and needs within the Northern Kentucky region.

“I’m excited to see UTB come from concept to reality, and what that means for the Latonia community,” said Jason Reed, who served as the Steering Chair for LNK 2017.

“The event promises to be much more than a one-night music event to entertain folks who are interested in this emerging community. When the organizers talk about ‘Unlocking the Block,’ they’re really talking about leaving their mark on this community for the foreseeable future.”
