Kentucky’s Kelly Knight Craft will be President Donald Trump’s nominee to serve as U.S. Ambassador to Canada.

The White House announced Trump’s intention to nominate Craft, confirming widespread speculation.

The U.S. Senate will need to confirm her nomination before Craft can assume the post in Ottawa. A timetable was not set for the vote.

This is not the first diplomatic role for Craft, who heads Kelly G. Knight, LLC, a business advisory firm based in Lexington. She was appointed in 2007 by then-President George W. Bush to serve as a U.S. delegate to the United Nations.

Craft has served in key roles for several organizations, including the board of directors for the Salvation Army, and the Center for Rural Development, a non-profit dedicated to economic progress in rural Kentucky.

She is a co-founder of the Craft Academy for Science and Mathematics at Morehead State University and a member of the University of Kentucky Board of Trustees, where she earned a bachelor’s degree.

Craft’s husband, Joe Craft, is the chief executive of Alliance Resource Partners, a large Kentucky coal producer.

A shame that a nothing is appointed as ambassador to Canada. A chump’s in Canada will go over like hippie turds.
