The Kenton County Animal Shelter received a $10,000 grant from The Greater Cincinnati Foundation to be used to transform an existing room into the shelter’s cat isolation room.

The cat isolation room will allow shelter staff the ability to quarantine and treat cats with upper respiratory infection. By removing a sick cat from the general population, it reduces the spread of that illness while the cat receives treatment.
“This is another important step as we continue to improve our lifesaving efforts at the shelter,” said shelter Director Elizabeth Cochran. “We are appreciative of The Greater Cincinnati Foundation for understanding our need and helping us with our efforts.”
Along with adding the cat isolation room, the shelter has also implemented several other changes to increase their lifesaving efforts and to exceed the expectations of shelter standards and guidelines.
These changes include updating the dog adoption kennels to reduce the spread of disease, introducing a Community Cat Program, updating adoption policies for dog breeds, enhancing partnerships with other animal rescues, and standardizing shelter protocol and cleaning procedures.
