Genesis Fisher to be inducted into Holmes High School Hall of Distinction at Drees Pavilion ceremony

A bomber pilot, a doctor, a philanthropist, a lawyer and a public relations expert will be inducted into the Holmes High School Hall of Distinction this year.

The hall was established in 2000 to honor distinguished graduates and/or friends of Covington Schools for their achievements and contributions to society.

The winners will be recognized during the Hall of Honors event at 6 p.m., June 14, at the Drees Pavilion.

In the days leading up to the event, the Tribune will recognize each of the Covington Education Hall of Honors winners with a profile of accomplishments and contributions.

Hall of Distinction Inductee Genesis Fisher

Fisher

At the age of 38, Genesis Fisher, Holmes class of 1996, seems to have accomplished far more than many people accomplish in a lifetime.

Like many of the other honorees this evening, Ms. Fisher is a start-to-finish product of the Covington Independent Public Schools from kindergarten through high school, graduating as one of the top 20 students in her class at Holmes, where she was a stand out in the International Baccalaureate program and a member of the track and basketball teams.

She went on to do her undergraduate work at prestigious Smith College in Northampton, Mass., where the list of alumni includes Gloria Steinem, Betty Friedan, Barbara Bush and Nancy Reagan. Ms. Fisher continued her education at New York University Law School, which led to a job with the Southern Poverty Law Center in Montgomery, Ala., one of the country’s most highly respected civil rights organizations.

She works today as a defense attorney and as the head of a counseling service she founded in Brooklyn.

Ms. Fisher was born in San Francisco and moved to Covington when her father, John C.K. Fisher, and mother, Wanda Hunter, moved here when John went to work as a reporter for The Kentucky Post.

The 2017 Hall of Honors winners will be recognized during the celebration event at 6 p.m., June 14, at the Drees Pavilion.  This will mark the first year for the Hall of Honors, which combines the Hall of Distinction and the Covington Education Foundation’s Person of the Year.  The revamped event is designed to honor alumni, celebrate supporters of the school – all while raising funds to support the foundation’s efforts to help students succeed by providing scholarships, paying college fees and assisting with the district’s mentoring program.   Ticket price $55 per person.  Tables and advertisements are also available.
