Florence Police: witnesses say driver killed in I-75 accident Thurs weaving in traffic before hitting semi


Florence Police have released details of the fatal auto accident on Interstate 71-75 in Boone County Thursday evening.

Kyle Lafferty of Walton was pronounced dead at the scene after colliding with a tractor-trailer that was parked on the right shoulder at approximately 7:13 p.m. Thursday The driver of the tractor trailer, Kendal Davis, was not injured.

The accident is still under investigation.

Florence Police have released the following report regarding the incident:

On 06/29/17 at approximately 7:13 P.M. the Florence Police Department responded to an injury accident with extrication at I75 southbound mile marker 177. According to witnesses a 2003 Toyota Camry driven by Kyle Lafferty, 27 years old, Walton, KY was southbound on I75 weaving from lane to lane. A 2016 International Tractor Trailer, occupied by a Kendal Davis, was parked on the right shoulder of I75 southbound at mile marker 177. Mr. Davis advised that he was having a mechanical issue with one of the tractor trailer’s tires and had stopped to fix the issue.

A witness advised that the 2003 Toyota Camry drifted onto the exit ramp to the southbound rest area but then veered back onto the interstate shoulder. The Toyota Camry struck the parked tractor trailer from behind. Mr. Lafferty was pronounced deceased at the scene. Mr. Davis was not injured.

The accident is still under investigation at this time.  Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to please contact the Florence Police Department.
