On Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at approximately 10:30 a.m. a single vehicle collision on southbound I-71 at the 73.5 mile marker claimed the life of one of the occupants and sent the other to University Hospital via Air Evac.

A 2004 Ford pickup truck occupied by brother and sister were southbound on I-71 in the left lane when the truck went left onto the shoulder, the left wheels dropping off the paved roadway onto the gravel strip near the cable barrier.  The driver oversteered to the right which caused the truck to start into a sideways slide (yaw) across the right lane and shoulder striking the guardrail which sent it airborne over the guardrail and down the embankment.  As it landed the male occupant was ejected from the truck.  The truck continued on down the hill where, at final resting position, the female was able to get out and climb up the hill to the side of the interstate where she was met by passersby.

First responding deputies located the ejected man and performed c.p.r. on him to no avail.  He is identified as Seth McClurg, 24 of Florence, Kentucky.  His sister, Hannah McClurg, 27 also of Florence, Kentucky was flown to University Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The collision is being investigated by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Unit.  Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to call the Boone County Sheriff’s Office at (859) 334-2175.
