Josh Tunning realized that with the nearest grocery store more than four miles away, there was a lack of immediate access to fresh produce in Silver Grove. This prompted discussion about the creation of a community garden in the city.
The project was originally presented last winter as part of a capstone project for Tunning, a Northern Kentucky University graduate student.
Utilizing a vacant lot owned by the City of Silver Grove plans were developed to turn the space into a community garden for the city’s residents.
Working with the Campbell County Extension Service plans were developed for the garden, that was funded in part through a grants from the Campbell County Soil Conservation District, the Campbell County Extension and private donations.
In a few short months, an idea has turned into a community project. With the garden complete, the City of Silver Grove is holding a ribbon cutting at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, June 17, at the Community Garden located at 5055 Four Mile Road in Silver Grove.
