City of Covington engages independent investigator to look into ‘alleged improper use of government resources’

The City of Covington has release the following statement:

The Covington  Board of Commissioners was recently made aware of the alleged improper use of government resources that may be the result of longstanding practices.

We anticipate that a thorough investigation will bring these matters to light so that they can be addressed properly and expeditiously. Until the facts are brought to light, it is would not be prudent to assume the accuracy or inaccuracy of these allegations.

We will not go into any detail regarding them at this time.

To this end, the Commission has identified outside counsel who can conduct this investigation with the diligence and independence necessary to determine the accuracy of the allegations and uphold the public trust.

The Commission has engaged the services of Scott White, a Lexington attorney. He will proceed with a sense of urgency but will take the time to guarantee the investigation is thorough.

Inquiries by the Tribune resulted in no other information to advance this story.

Sources told the Tribune that a discussion of specifics would inflame the issue rather than shed light, and that the independent investigation would provide the facts that would allow the city to proceed based on those facts.
