The City of Covington continues making progress with its search to fill the city manager position, receiving applications from qualified candidates worldwide.

The City has received 37 applications, eight of which have moved on to the next round of reviews.
Applications have been submitted from 16 different states, ranging from Washington, Colorado, and Utah to New York, Florida, and Minnesota. Additionally, the City has received international applications from Kenya and Japan.
Of the total number of submitted applications, 30 candidates have earned their master’s degrees and 24 candidates confirmed they are certified members of the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) or have received other certifications. Six candidates stated they have Kentucky government experience.
Interim City Manager Loren Wolff said the City is excited with the responses it has received.
“Each of the potential candidates has an impressive background and is qualified for the position, but it’s not just about a candidates’ resume,” Wolff stated. “The goal is to make sure we find the right person who is the best fit for the position and for the City. We want someone who is able to provide a fresh perspective and continue moving the City forward.”
In March 2017, the City contracted with the consulting firm Municipal Solutions, LLC to launch an international search to recruit qualified candidates for the City Manager position.
Municipal Solutions is a premier consulting firm with more than 120 Senior Associates and has conducted over 200 searches nationally for small towns and large cities.
The firm’s CEO and consultants have provided searches for numerous municipalities including the cities of Syracuse New York, Arkansas City Arkansas, Daytona Beach and Miami, Florida, Scottsdale Arizona.
The Board of Commissioners established a search committee of five people to evaluate candidates and make recommendations. Members of the committee include a combination of citizens and City staff.
The City anticipates the position to be filled by the end of June 2017.
