United Way looking for nonprofit partners to join in its family-centered approach for 2018

United Way of Greater Cincinnati has announced its 2017 Call for Partners, United Way’s new investment process to determine all investments aligned with its new Opportunity Agenda starting in 2018.

The Call for Partners has been sent to all 142 current United Way agency partners, as well as an additional 100 organizations that have inquired throughout this process. The invitation is open to any nonprofit organization that would like to join United Way as a partner. Proposals are due online by Friday, June 9, at 5 p.m.

“Our Call for Partners is an invitation to the nonprofit community to join us in the fight against poverty,” said Ross Meyer, Senior Vice President and Chief Impact Officer, United Way of Greater Cincinnati. “We’re looking for partners who will put children and families at the center and deliver more holistic support to help them build on their strengths and overcome complex challenges. This is the biggest shift in our approach in a decade, and we want partners who are open to learning with us and doing things differently.”

To emphasize commitment to the family-centered approached, United Way will prioritize helping families with incomes below self-sufficiency levels, defined as at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL).

United Way’s first priority is serving families with children under the age of six. Families with young children have the highest poverty rates in our region, during a time that is most important for child development.

United Way’s second priority population is families with children ages six to 24, and the third priority is to support important strategies that focus on individuals with incomes below 200% FPL. United Way will also continue to support strategies that benefit all people in need regardless of income level.

The Call for Partners and Opportunity Agenda were co-created based on the insights and experiences of numerous current partners, as well as the voice of families themselves. All current agency partners have an opportunity to align to the Call for Partners.

“In building this new approach, United Way deeply engaged and listened to the real experts – the families themselves and those who serve them,” said Jane Keller, president and CEO, Cincinnati Youth Collaborative, and former United Way Board member.

For all nonprofit organizations interested in applying for funding, United Way is holding two training opportunities this week:

· Wednesday, May 10 from 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM at United Way of Greater Cincinnati’s Fifth Third Convening Center, 2400 Reading Road, Cincinnati
