Freedom home opener May 17 includes appearance by former Reds players; season starts today


The final roster is set and opening night is now one week away for the Florence Freedom as they get set to take on the Southern Illinois Miners at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17.

The Freedom, presented by Titan Mechanical Solutions, open the home regular season next Wednesday with an appearance by Chris Sabo, Glenn Braggs, Tom Browning and Herm Winningham, presented by Cornerstone Lillie Insurance and Hollywood Casino.

Fans can purchase a VIP meet ‘n greet and enjoy a one-hour story time and Q&A session with the champs, receive autographs, take pictures, and receive a Chris Sabo sports goggles giveaway.

Then on Thursday, May 18, the Freedom wrap up the brief home stand with a doubleheader against the Miners. Game time is scheduled for 5:35pm for a doubleheader that will include a job fair on the concourse for fans.

Businesses such as UPS, McDonalds, Staffmark, HW Staffing, Domino’s, Chick-fil-A on Houston Road, Kroger, the Florence Freedom and American National University will all be in attendance hiring on the concourse.

Next Thursday is also a Thirsty Thursday, featuring $1 Hudepohl and Hudy Delight beers, as well as 20oz craft beers for $4.

The Freedom open the regular season on the road this Friday through Sunday at the Gateway Grizzlies. Fans can listen to the voice of the Freedom, Spenser Smith, by logging on to FlorenceFreeedom.com.
