Tibetan Monks at Kenton County library making Sand Mandala; on Friday dispersing sand into the Ohio

Tibetan Monks are at the Kenton County public library in Covington finishing up a Sand Mandala they started Monday after an opening ceremony.

The Monks have returned to the library after seven years.

They are from the Drepung Gomang Monastery to create an ancient, sacred form of Tibetan Buddhist art, the Sand Mandala.

They work from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day. The public is welcome to come in to observe.

The closing ceremony at 11 a.m. on Friday includes dismantling of the Mandala and dispersing it into the Ohio River.

A limited quantity of the sand can be distributed to participants.
