Keeping pace with the energy of Thomas More College President David A. Armstrong, J.D., is no easy task, but elementary education major Kelsee Aker ’20 is up to the challenge.

Her day as President of TMC began at 7:30 a.m. at Receptions Banquet and Conference Center in Erlanger, for Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Eggs ’N Issues networking event. Armstrong, Northern Kentucky University President Geoffrey Mearns, and Gateway Community and Technical College President Fernando Figueroa, Ph.D., were the featured speakers on the state of higher education in northern Kentucky.
Aker’s day ended more than 12 hours later when Armstrong was the featured speaker at the Cincinnati chapter meeting of Financial Executives International.
“It’s just been so informative,” Aker said. “I’ve been learning about how Thomas More College connects with other colleges, how busy the days are, how much President Armstrong has to do in one day, and how much he loves Thomas More College.”
The idea of having a TMC student serve as President for the Day came from members of the Student Activities Board who brought the idea to Dean of Students Kevin Reynolds.
“It sounded like a lot of fun to me and a great way for a student to see first-hand the inner workings of the college and the many facets of President Armstrong’s job,” Reynolds said.
Aker, a graduate of Ludlow High School, shares Armstrong’s love of Thomas More College, along with his passion for making the most of 24 hours in the day. In addition to her class work, Aker is a student ambassador, participates in community work-study, and is a member of the Education Club.
Over the last few weeks, the student body nominated their peers for the honor of representing them as President for the Day.
From those nominations, the Student Activities Board randomly selected three finalists. TMC’s student body then voted on which of the three finalists would serve as president and Aker, a first-year student, came out the winner and the recipient of a very busy day.
