St. Vincent De Paul Summer Breeze program cools Northern Kentucky’s most vulnerable in the summer

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is working on plans to cool things off this summer.

During the warm summer months, many in Northern Kentucky are at risk from the heat and humidity. Among the most vulnerable are children, the elderly and those who are suffering from life-threatening medical conditions such as COPD, asthma and lung cancer.

“A long stretch of 100 plus degree days becomes a true medical emergency for many in our community,” said Executive Director Ralph Bradburn.

Through the Summer Breeze program, the Society provides fans to those needing help to cope with the Northern Kentucky summer heat and humidity. It also provides room air conditioners to those with a documented medical condition that requires the units.

The Summer Breeze program operates from May through September.

For the past 18 years, the Society been the only organization in Northern Kentucky offering a heat relief program and many times the need is greater than available resources.

The Society could not offer this program without the financial assistance of donors and foundations. Due to their generosity, all requests last summer for air conditioners and fans were met.

St. Vincent is also in need of donations of fans, air conditioners and financial assistance to help with the purchasing of units. You can help give relief to those suffering with terminal and acute pulmonary illnesses by donating to the Summer Breeze program. Those needing a fan or air conditioner are asked to call St. Vincent’s assistance line at 859-341-3219, Monday – Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and ask for help.
