CVG average airfares continue to drop, according to U.S. Department of Transportation report


The U.S. Department of Transportation released its average airfare ranking report for fourth quarter 2016. Below is a summary as it relates to the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG):

· CVG average fare ranked #42 compared to #22 in 4Q 2015

· CVG average fare of $367 decreased 12% compared to $419 in 4Q 2015

◦ Fares decreased 26% compared to $496 in 4Q 2014
◦ Fares are down $129 round-trip over the last 24 months

· Low-cost carrier capacity at CVG was 21% in 4Q 2016 compared to 16% in 4Q 2015

· Regional comparisons:
◦ Louisville (SDF) ranked #17 – average fare $404
◦ Lexington (LEX) ranked #24 – average fare $395
◦ Dayton (DAY) ranked #26 – average fare $393
◦ CVG ranked #42 – average fare $367
◦ Columbus (CMH) ranked #48 – average fare $360
