The Children’s Law Center is pleased to announce its newest attorney, Denise Durbin, who joined the CLC in February 2017 to work under the Crime Victim Project. The Project is currently underway and is a grant-funded program by the Victims of Crime Act. CLC has been representing crime victims for over 20 years and this new program will allow attorneys to expand services to young people who have been victimized.
The Crime Victim Project provides legal services to youth victims of family, dating and domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and a variety of other types of crimes. The primary goal of the Project is to provide legal services to youth who need assistance because of the crime committed against them. Attorneys working on the Project are also appointed in felony sexual and physical abuse cases to represent the victim’s needs throughout the criminal trial process.
“I am honored to be involved with CLC and this wonderful cause,” said Durbin. “Crime victims face many legal issues and barriers because of the victimization and having an attorney equips the victim with power they are often lacking because of the crime.”

In addition to working at the CLC, Durbin serves on two regional task forces designed to create law enforcement and healthcare protocol in cases involving human trafficking victims. She is also the vice-president of the Northern Kentucky Regional Mental Health Court.
Prior to joining CLC, Durbin worked for eight years as a felony prosecutor, predominantly prosecuting cases involving sexual assault, dating and domestic violence, and child abuse. Before prosecution, she worked during law school at UC’s Domestic Violence and Civil Protection Order Clinic. She received her law degree from University of Cincinnati and she obtained a bachelor’s and master’s degree in psychology from the University of Kentucky.
Durbin is taking cases under the project along with current employees Emily Cochran, Amy Halbrook, and soon-to-be Executive Director, Acena Beck.
Children’s Law Center, Inc. (CLC) is a unique non-profit legal service center protecting the rights of children and youth to help them overcome barriers and transition into adulthood, better advocate for their needs, and successfully contribute to society. It provides individual legal advocacy to children and youth, and through public policy work, training and education, impact litigation, and juvenile defender support services, seeks to improve the systems that serve them. CLC offers services in both Kentucky and Ohio, and collaborates with other organizations within the region and nationally on a variety of topics. CLC does not charge fees to its child/youth clients or their families.
