Union man suffers life-threatening injuries in Tuesday accident involving car and motorcycle on U.S. 42

A Union man was serious injured in a two-vehicle accident Tuesday evening on U.S. 42 .

The Boone County Sheriff’s Department says Chandler Steed, 21, was transported to St. Elizabeth, Florence after the motorcycle he was driving collided with a vehicle on U.S. 42 at Arbor Springs Boulevard in Union at 5:12 p.m.

Steed was later transported by Air Care to University Medical Center in Cincinnati, with what are reported as life-threatening injuries.

U.S. 42 was closed to traffic for more than two hours following the accident.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Department released the following report regarding the accident:

On Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at 5:12 p.m. a two-vehicle traffic collision at the intersection of U.S. Highway 42 and Arbor Springs Boulevard in Union, Kentucky caused one of the drivers to be sent to the hospital with reported life threatening injuries.

A 2013 Nissan Maxima, operated by Kenady Carson, 17, of Florence, Kentucky, was traveling eastbound on U.S. Highway 42 and slowing down to attempt a right turn onto Arbor Springs Boulevard. A 2008 Honda motorcycle, operated by Chandler Steed, 21 of Union, Kentucky was traveling eastbound on US Highway 42 when he changed lanes and began passing Carson in the emergency lane. As Ms. Carson was making the right turn onto Arbor Springs her vehicle was struck by Mr. Steed’s motorcycle. Mr. Steed was subsequently ejected from the motorcycle after the collision however was wearing a helmet.

Mr. Steed was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Florence by Union EMS however was transferred to University Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio by Air Care medical helicopter with life threatening injuries. Ms. Carson was not injured in the collision.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Unit is investigating trying to determine the cause of the collision.
No charges have been filed at this time, and speed is suspected as a factor in the collision. U.S. Highway 42 has since reopened to traffic at approximately 7:45 p.m.
