Turfway Park selections for Thursday

Turfway Park in Florence provides daily selections and comments for the Tribune during the live racing meets.

THURSDAY, MARCH 23:

RACE 1
SATURDAY’S CATCH and BROADWAY BROAD both came off of layoffs and finished a neck apart here in their Turfway debuts two weeks ago. It’s tough to separate them but give the slight edge to the three year old SATURDAY’S CATCH who broke poorly and was running well at the finish. MYKINDACAT is a definite threat with Jack Gilligan picking up the mount tonight.

RACE 2
ATRUEVISION has been running well at this level and figures to get a good trip with Jimenez aboard from the inside post. She looks best in a fairly well matched field. SUITS MY FANCY was overmatched last out but drops back to the bottom and is the one to beat. SUCCESSFUL BRAT is a solid contender.

RACE 3
GORGEOUS GEORGE came off of a long layoff to break his maiden and has posted two quick works since that start. Ward adds blinkers tonight and he rates the edge. TWENTY GAUGE has just one win in twenty starts but has two good races over the Turfway Poly and looks dangerous. THE RIGHT THING needed his last race and figures to move forward.

RACE 4
HAT IN HAND was no match for a runaway winner last out who came right back to win again next out. He drops to a career low claiming level for his Turfway debut and if he takes to the Poly he should win this one. BIG BROWN SEVENS has been very consistent at this level and is definitely the one to beat. RUFEELINGLUCKY is a contender and shouldn’t be left out of the gimmicks.

RACE 5
ENLISTED MAN has a terrible career record of just four wins in fifty races but he has definitely taken to the Turfway Poly where he has won two of his last four. He looks best with Jimenez up for Eric Foster. ONE BUCK ROMA also likes this track. He will be rallying from just off of the pace and his best makes him the one to beat. DOUBLE DERINGER could add value to the gimmicks.

RACE 6
REVOLVER SESSIONS has been off since September but is training steadily and drops to the bottom for her return. She looks like a winner against this bunch. FIRST PUNCH was never in contention after breaking slowly in her Turfway debut. She was going well at the finish and a better start makes her dangerous tonight. GIFT OF FRIENDS rates a chance.

RACE 7
SUDDEN FAME has been very impressive winning back to back races for Tom Drury and John McKee. She faces a small but tough field tonight but appears to be in a good spot to make it three in a row. TIA FLOR is a speedy filly who is also running well. She figures to like the cut back to five and half furlongs and is the one to catch. C’EST BON comes off of several route races and will be running at the end with Jimenez picking up the mount tonight.

RACE 8
WAR READY drops back in against bottom claimers and a return to his best form would make him a winner at this level. WALLSTREET FLASH has run well in both of his Turfway races and figures to be second best with Quinonez aboard tonight. ICE CREAM TRUCK has never been worse than third over this surface and can’t be overlooked.

RACE 9
ANN’S O’PRADO drops in class and figures to be running at the end in a race that should have a lively pace. Give her the edge with Lezcano aboard for Bert Crawford. SHARP GAME has been off since November but also takes the class drop for Stephen Dunn who has two wins from just three starts this meet with Jimenez picking up the mount tonight. PI SAIL was dull last out but is capable of better so don’t leave her out of the gimmicks.
