Friends of Steely Library to hold fundraising event at New Riff for library informatics scholarships

More information is at our fingertips than ever before – and it’s more important than ever to have trained professionals who know how to find, access, and use credible information.

On Wednesday, March 22, Northern Kentucky University’s Friends of Steely Library will bring together some of the region’s top authors and culinary and beverage experts for a one-of-a-kind event that will directly benefit NKU library informatics students.

“Good Food. Good Drinks. Good Books” will be held 7-10 p.m. Wednesday, March 22 at New Riff Distilling in Newport. Proceeds will support the Friends of Steely Library scholarship, established in 2016 to help high-achieving library informatics students continue and complete their degrees.

The event will also benefit the library’s “Bridging the Gap: Supplying the Next Generation of Librarians” program, which has helped dozens of library employees throughout rural Kentucky and West Virginia earn library science degrees online.

The “Good Food” will be provided by Chef’s Choice Catering and “Good Drinks” by New Riff Distilling. The “Good Books” will include an opportunity to meet the authors of featured books Barrel Strength Bourbon: The Explosive Growth of America’s Whiskey by Carla Harris Carlton; and Love Brunch: Great chefs share their passion for good food and gathering on Sundays, a compilation of recipes by a variety of five-star chefs including Jean-Robert de Cavel with sales benefiting the de Cavel Family SIDS Foundation. Brad Myers and Michael Sharfe will provide musical entertainment.

Tickets are $100, which includes food, beverages, a silent auction, door prize, and live entertainment. Registration is limited to 200 guests and ends Wednesday, March 15.

Created in 1985, Friends of Steely Library supports Steely Library with programs to enrich the lives of students by creating long-lasting impressions in pursuit of their artistic and scholastic interests.
