A group of Boone County High School students found a special way to honor our nation’s veterans, with some help from Kroger.

The students, along with teacher Rita Grant, 30-year U.S. Army veteran Karl Williams and Burlington Kroger store manager Trevor Curren unveiled a special mural at the store Friday.

The military service mural features an American flag, with the words, “Thank You For Your Service,” and was hand-painted by the students. A photo wall of local veterans and military service members was also unveiled.

The project was envisioned to honor local veterans and service members and to support the Boone County High School Art Program.

Kroger has encouraged community participation in several mural projects through the region, including one that was completed at the Madison Avenue Kroger store in Covington last year.

At the unveiling of that mural, Patty Leeseman, Public Affairs Manager for the Kroger, Cincinnati/Dayton Division, the mural projects stem from Kroger’s desire to engage with the local community where it operates.

“Kroger is committed to the community and this is something that is unique,” Leeseman said. “We are also trying to bring a little bit of the community to the store.”

The Burlington Kroger is located at 1751 Patrick Drive, in Burlingto.

Kroger Cincinnati/Dayton Division employs more than 20,000 associates who serve customers in 109 supermarkets (including 16 Marketplace stores), warehouses and offices in the Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, Eastern Indiana, and Dayton areas.

With more than 3,000 groups participating in the Division’s Community Rewards Program, $4 million was donated back to local non-profit organizations in 2016.
