Union man charged with Criminal Abuse of 2 year old


A Union man has been arrested and charged with Criminal Abuse, first degree of a two-year old.

The Boone County Sheriff’s office has issued this release regarding the incident:

On Monday, February 20, 2017 at approximately 10:50 p.m. Boone County Sheriff’s investigators arrested a Union, Kentucky man for the physical abuse on February 18, 2017 of a two year old child who was under his care at his home.

Bray Nelson, 32 of the 10,000 block of Hartwood Court in Union, Kentucky is *charged with Criminal Abuse 1st degree (Class C felony) after he caused extensive bruising to a two year old boy’s thigh, lower leg & buttocks.  Additionally, the boy experienced bruising under both arm pits, his lower chest, his arm and his ear.  Nelson told detectives when he realized how severe the injuries were he got ice and tried to rub it out.

508.100 Criminal abuse in the first degree.
(1) A person is guilty of criminal abuse in the first degree when he intentionally abuses another person or permits another person of whom he has actual custody to be abused and thereby:
(a) Causes serious physical injury; or
(b) Places him in a situation that may cause him serious physical injury; or
(c) Causes torture, cruel confinement or cruel punishment;
to a person twelve (12) years of age or less, or who is physically helpless or mentally helpless.

(2) Criminal abuse in the first degree is a Class C felony.

Nelson was lodged in the Boone County Detention Center where he bonded out on a $2,500 bond.
