NKU women Norse lose to Cleveland State on the road, 77-58, falling to 8-19 overall for the season


Northern Kentucky women’s basketball fell to Horizon League foe Cleveland State on Saturday afternoon, 77-58. With the loss, NKU dips to 8-19 overall and 4-11 in League play, while the Vikings advance to 13-14 (8-8 HL).
 
Stat Leaders
· Junior guard Mikayla Terry recorded the fifth 20-point game of her career with 21 points while also dishing out four assists and adding a pair of blocks.
· Redshirt-freshman guard Taryn Taugher had her second-straight double-digit scoring performance with 14 points, including a career-best three 3-pointers. Taugher also matched her career high in rebounds, with eight, and assists, with three.
· Senior forward Rebecca Lyttle led the team on the boards with nine rebounds.
 
First Half Summary

· NKU’s 3-point shooting was the story of the first half, with NKU going 6-of-12 from long range, including the Norse’s first 12 points of the contest.
· Terry and Taugher both went 2-of-3 from beyond the arc, with Terry leading all players with 11 points at the close of the half. Taugher led the team in assists, tying her personal best with three dimes.
· The Norse shot 38.5 percent in the half, bolstered by a 50.0 percent effort in the second quarter that included 3-of-4 3-point shooting.
· Cleveland State shot 12-of-27 from the field for 44.4 percent, but was able to pull away for a 35-27 lead at the intermission courtesy of 7-of-9 free throw shooting.
 
Second Half Summary
· NKU’s percentage dropped in the second half, going 30.8 percent in the third quarter and 27.3 percent in the fourth, with just seven field goals between the two.
· However, the Norse enjoyed multiple trips to the charity stripe and had a stellar third quarter, going 9-of-9.
· Taugher was instrumental in the third frame, scoring eight of her 14 points in the quarter.
· The third quarter was the most competitive of the two, with high scoring between the two teams as Cleveland State dropped 23 points while the Norse had 18, both game highs for the respective teams.
